Disposable vapes have smashed the vape scene since their launch last year. We discussed the environmental impact of these before releasing them in our shop, in the hope it educated many of the vapers considering switching from reusable vapes to disposables. So far, the sale of disposables continues to be high in our Bristol vape shop. In this post, we will look at the reasons why you may be choosing to vape with disposable e-cigarettes, and why reusable kits may be a better choice for you.
1. Costs of Disposables Compared to Rechargeable Vape Kits
Disposable e-cigarette products cost much more to use in the long-run. Not only do they get expensive, they can also be detrimental to the environment — with many people tossing the product into the bin instead of recycling it. Our electronic cigarette solution takes a few minutes to install and can last for months or even years, cutting down on waste and costs overall.
For a breakdown of the additional costs of disposable vaping, we have summarised two main calculations below. The first just compares for the costs of e-liquids as this may be helpful to know separately. Sometimes with the electronic cigarette hardware it is gifted or passed on for free, or you may have a kit which is lasting you years and years.
Cost of E-Liquids: Disposables
The cost per puff is the average cost of a disposable (£6) divided by the average number of puffs per disposable (600) = 1p per puff. These kits contain only 2ml of juice per pen, as stated by numerous branded packets.
Cost of E-Liquids: Refillable E-Liquids
The cost per puff is calculated as the average cost of a 10ml bottle divided by number of puffs per bottle. You can multibuy e-liquids for £3 for example Mr Salt juice bottles or Ohm Brew salts. In line with the publicised disposables statement that 2ml is 600 puffs, 10ml would be 5 times the 2ml. Therefore, a 10ml bottle of juice would be an average of 3,000 puffs. Which means £3 per bottle divided by 3,000 puffs is 0.1p per puff.
Cost of E-Liquids: Comparison of Disposables vs Refillables
So how much cheaper are reusable e-juice bottles compared to the cost of disposables? The calculation is 1p disposable / divided by 0.1p reusable = 10. Reusable e-liquids are 10 times cheaper than disposables.
So now we see that e-liquids are 10 times cheaper than disposables, we can now calculate an average cost comparison below to include a lovely new kit and replacement parts. There are many assumptions in this, as how long a vape kit lasts someone depends on how they take care of it and which type of kit they buy. This is just to give a rough idea of comparable costs. The main assumption is that an average vaper may vape 750 puffs per week.
Annual Cost of Vaping: Disposables
If the average person buys 5 disposables per month, then they spend 5 x 12 months x £6 per bar = £360 per year on disposable kits.
The total cost of disposables per year is £360.
Annual Cost of Vaping: Reusables
The Aspire Minican Plus pod vape kit starts at £14.99. You also need to consider the cost of replacement coils/pods, which varies depending on the brand and how much you vape. The £14.99 kit comes with a pack of 2 pods costing £5.99, which may last for 1 month. So, the annual cost for these pods would be £71.88. Additionally, you should factor in the cost of e-liquids. Assuming 5 disposables provide 600 puffs each, that equals 3,000 puffs per month. Using a multibuy e juice that costs £3 per month, the annual cost for e-liquids would be £36.
The total cost for reusables, including kit, coils / pods and e-juices, is £122.87.
Annual Cost of Vaping: Comparison of Disposables vs Rechargeables
In conclusion, if you bought one new rechargeable vape kit per year, you could save £237 per year using rechargeables instead of disposables. This means you could vape nearly 3 years’ worth of rechargeables, for every year you vape of disposables. Plus remember the environmental benefits already discussed…
Annual Cost of Smoking: Comparison to Tobacco Cigarettes
We decided to also include a mention to the cost of smoking an average of 10 cigarettes per day. Let’s calculate the average cost of tobacco if you smoke 10 cigarettes per day. The cheapest 20 packs of cigarettes is now £9.73, being a minimum of £4.87 per day. So £4.87 x 7 days per week x 52 weeks = £1,770.86 per year on tobacco cigarettes. As you can see, either disposables or reusable vape kits are significantly cheaper than smoking a tobacco cigarette. You could vape for 14 years at the same cost compared to smoking for just 1 year. You could save even more if you smoke more expensive tobacco packs than stated here. There are also potentially huge cost savings to the NHS relating to the treatment of smokers’ health concerns.
The cost of a disposable is around 3 x more expensive than refillable kits, replacement coils, and e-liquids combined, so it makes financial sense to switch from disposables to reusable. Below are some of the best kits which produce an amazing flavour, or comparable e-liquids to the sensation of disposable kits. If you need any help with choosing a reusable vape or juice to suit your needs, feel free to contact us.
2. Juices Equivalent or Better Than The Taste of Disposables
One of the reasons people are getting hooked on the Ready-to-use disposable vapes is because they believe the flavours hit them like none they’ve tried before. In actual fact, salt nicotines are relatively new to the vape scene and they are also available, with even more flavours and even bigger popularity for rechargeables
Let’s look at specifics. The best-selling Elf Bar in our Bristol shop is Blue Razz Lemonade. A comparable, and equally best-selling salt e-liquid, is the Mr Salt Blue Raspberry Lemonade. The quality and taste of these flavours are equivalent, but with Mr Salt you also get to choose which nicotine strength you’d like. Elf Bars only come in 20mg nicotines, whereas Mr Salts also come in 10mg as well as 20mg nic strengths.
Obsessed with the Elf Bar flavours, you can now buy Bar Juice salt nicotine. Bar Juice gives the same amount of flavour as Elf Bar and lost vape they can be used in reusable vapes.
3. If It’s Ease of Ready-to-use vapes You’re Looking For
Disposable vapes have no buttons or coils to replace. The most comparable kits in the current vape market are:
The Aspire Minican Plus kit is not only the best value at only £14.99, but it features an auto-draw function so you simply pick it up and vape it. It is also incredibly easy to refill with juices.
For a little more of a budget, which still doesn’t compare to the higher costs of disposable vapes or tobacco cigarettes, the Vaporesso XROS Mini kits are hugely popular for many reasons. They also feature an auto-draw function and replaceable pods. There are choices in which XROS Mini pods you buy, with an 0.8ohm option which offers increased vapour production, or a 1.2ohm which is more comparable to the disposable vapes in vape production.
These vapes simply need a pod replacement when it burns out, rather than having to change a coil. It is incredibly easy to do – simply pull out the old pod and the new pod automatically attaches via a magnet.
4. If It’s The Size and Discreteness You Like
The vape industry has a huge range of pod kits. Why? Because similar to you, other vapers like to vape on discrete and small-sized pods too. Take a look at our range, many of which are comparable to the disposable vapes you are used to. The best-selling pod which is discrete looking is the Vaporesso XROS Mini kit mentioned in section 3 above.
5. If you like Low Up-Front Costs
The Aspire Minican Plus kit is our current best value pod system, priced at only £14.99. These pod kits are genuinely great quality vapes, Aspire are a very well-respected brand name. There literally is nothing holding you back from switching from to refillable vape kits.
6. If It’s the Lack of Leaking You Like
Looking for a vape that won’t leak? Look no further than the Aspire Minican Plus kit, Vaporesso XROS Mini kits or the latest SMOK Novo 2S Pods. These sealed-pod system prevent leaks, you can enjoy your vaping experience without worry. Looking to ditch your disposable vapes for a reusable one? we’ve got you covered. Plus, leak-free vapes come in a variety of colours and styles, find the perfect one to match your personality. So why wait? Get your hands on a non-leaking vape today!
7. If Disposable Vapes Give You That Perfect ‘Having A Smoke’ Feeling
This may be the effect of two key vape concepts. Nicotine salts, e-liquids manufactured for disposable kits, and offer a strong hit. It is comparable to that first-morning smoke if you’ve been a heavy smoker. If this is why you like vaping disposable vapes, then you can choose a reusable kit and just make sure to buy salt nicotines instead of freebase.
It may also be because disposable vapes are mouth-to-lung (MTL) style vaping kits. Some vapers set out using sub-ohm kits which produce huge clouds and flavours. They give a different vape effect on your throat than MTL kits do. Therefore you may find it’ll be best to use an MTL vape kit.
Conclusion: Should I Switch From Disposable vapes To Reusable Vapes?
Switching from Ready-to-use disposable vapes to a reusable vape can be more cost-effective and satisfying. Reusable vapes let you choose your own e-liquid flavours and nicotine strengths, allowing for a customized vaping experience tailored to your needs. Enjoy long-term savings and a more personalized vaping journey with reusable vapes.

Vaping is a cheaper alternative to smoking, and it’s true that it can save you money in the long run. From the above post, you can now see that even switching from disposables to reusable kits can save you significant money. But did you know that vaping can also save the NHS money? Public Health England stated the following in this Government support page: “In England alone, 78,000 people a year – or 200 per day – die from smoking. In addition to the human cost, smoking costs the economy £14.7 billion per year, £2.5 billion of which falls to the NHS.” That’s because smokers cost the NHS a lot of money in treatment for smoking-related illnesses. Imagine if everyone switched from smoking to vaping, how much that would save the NHS’s bottom line too?
